5 Christmas Songs That Rock

Christmas songs that rockJingle Bells and Frosty the Snowman are perfectly good Christmas songs, but I like Christmas songs that rock.  Sometimes pop Christmas songs are good too, but this year I find myself skipping through even Wham’s Last Christmas and Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You for something with just a little bit more edge.

Here are my favorite Christmas songs this year.

1. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by U2
This should not be a surprise to anyone since U2 is my favorite band, but it is a good remake of the song originally done by a girl group in the 60’s.  Also, it is nice for U2 to be a bit playful and less serious every now and then.

2. Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses
I can certainly relate to the first part of this song this year, but don’t fret, all worked out for the singer and for me.

“Bah, humbug!” No, that’s too strong
‘Cause it is my favorite holiday
But all this year’s been a busy blur
Don’t think I have the energy

3. A Great Big Sled by The Killers
Ah an ode to holding on to the kid in you at the holidays as shown through lyrics like, “I wanna roll around like a kid in the snow.”  Although my favorite line is, “This snowman is shaping up to be an eight but not out of ten.”

4. Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonite) by The Ramones
If you like the Ramones, you will like this song, since most of their songs sound just about the same.  Fast.  “Merry Christmas, merry merry merry Christmas.”

5. Christmas in Hollis by Run D.M.C.
Only in Hollis does Santa leave his wallet full of G’s.

What is your favorite Christmas song (rock or not)?
