It is impossible not to relax at The Inn at Palmetto Bluff. This luxurious resort on the banks of the May River in the South Carolina low country oozes tranquility. Southern hospitality is evident and the staff is always one step ahead thinking of what you want before you even know you want or need it. They have thought of everything. They even greeted us by our names when we pulled up in our rental car. That’s right, they knew our names before we even checked in!
The accommodations are cottages spread throughout the property so everyone has privacy. I joked with my husband that this would be a good place to bring a secret lover. All of the cottages come with bicycles. We had one boy bike and one girl bike…of course.
The layout of the cottage was perfect. The main bedroom had the bed, a fireplace with two comfy chairs facing it and a beverage area that had a refrigerator (stocked with juice, milk, etc) and one of those fancy single serve coffee machines. Books, candles, umbrellas, corkscrew, anything you may want was already in the room.
The bedroom led out to a screened in porch overlooking the lagoon. One day we got champagne and crackers from the speciality grocery store on the property and enjoyed the view and the sounds of the critters.
The cottage also had a large dressing area and beautiful bathroom. My husband learned the hard way though that you should not use the steam shower after drinking. That is a recipe for some major dehydration!
During the days we would take long walks through the property, which is quite large and also has private residences. One day we were not quite “lost”, but did not really know where we were either when one of the staff casually showed up on a bike asking us if we were ok and if we needed any water. We were convinced they were tracking us because someone always showed up at just the right time for whatever was needed.
I could sit for a long time with a cocktail at sunset enjoying the May River.
We were here to relax so we mostly ate, drank and went on walks. There is also a pool, a spa and a gym that we did not use. We had some amazing food at the resort. I can still picture the fresh pasta with seafood in a light broth and the freshly made beignet and doughnut platter for dessert.
The Inn at Palmetto Bluff is even private enough for celebrities. I saw Gail Simmons from Top Chef riding a bike on the property! She is very pretty in person and much thinner than she looks on TV. I never really understood why all the male contestants on Top Chef liked her so much, but after seeing her in person I get it!
So if you are in need of some relaxation or a romantic getaway, give The Inn at Palmetto Bluff a try.
